Sorry.
Just decided to come have a look here. Not much going on, I see. I hope things pick up in the spring...
Things are O.K. here. It's definitely much better than Telluride was, for me. But it's also definitely not Utah. It's different. Also, I got out here Dec. 2, so all I've experienced is winter; COLD, grey, lots of rain...not Utah. I know that it will get much, much nicer in the spring. Summer in the New England mountains is really beautiful. Job is going well so far. I have a great boss, great senior team, and what seems like solid corporate support. Nikki and Landon stayed in PC for the winter for a few reasons; 1. To keep Landon in the same school where he is doing well 2. Nikki has a great job so she wants to hold onto it for a little while 3. make sure this job doesn't turn out like Telluride did, and then we're both unemployed.
So it sucks not being near Nic and Landon. Sucks big time. But it's temporary, and we'll be back together in the spring. The advantage to being here by myself is that I can work a ton, and give the job everything. I have no reason to go home at night so I basically work until I can't anymore, then I walk home and go to bed, get up and do more of that. Been working days, swings, graves...I'm all over the place, but it's good to put in the time, as a FNG, among old vets. I'm over Vehicle Maint, Grooming, Summer trails, and Terrain Parks. Similar to last couple jobs.
People here are great. SUPER nice. It's a great community. Landon came out to visit for a week and that was a lot of fun. We had great "guy time"; going out in the cats, Karting, skiing, tubing...lots of fun activities together. Putting him back on the plane to go home was one of the saddest things I've ever felt. Nikki came out for a weekend and that was awesome, but short. They are both coming out for Landon's spring break for 10 days, and I CAN'T WAIT for that.
Over all...going pretty O.K. It's not bad.

Knowing I was leaving and Nikki needed reliable transportation in any weather, I did some work to the 'ol Silverado before leaving, fixing a bunch of things that didn't really bother me, but would be no good for her; *A speaker in the drivers door was out (Bad crossover) *Front hub actuator was 10-7 (Bad ground) *Heater only worked on high (Resistors) *Blendair doors were stuck (Crank arm had come off) *Put new snow tires on it *Replaced the windseild *Changed the oil -basically a bunch of stuff that had been nagging me forever, but like I said; I just didn't care about the issues and had been thinking that I'd be selling it "soon" anyway. But I couldn't leave it like that for her, so I fixed all that, and you know what?...that thing, with 250k miles is STILL, really a darn nice truck.
The plan that Nic and I made was that I'd buy a new-to-me truck, since I need a newer one anyway, and I'd take that to VT. Use the old truck for her for the winter, and then to help us move here in the spring, then sell it. So I bought an '05 Silverado 4x4 xcab/sbed with 52k miles on it, in basically mint cosmetic condition. Well, I don't like the thing at all. It gets terrible gas mileage, It rides stiff, it's an auto (only way you can get newer gas trucks, which sucks). seats are cheap and uncomfortable, and there are a host of other minor things. The gauges are actuated by stepper motors. B/c you know...magnets that have been used for 60+ years didn't work good enough? So two of the gauges have already taken a dump meaning the thing needs a new IC already. It's just a CHEAP truck. I think I'll stick to the plan except that after we move, I'll sell the new truck and keep the old one, which other than the fact that "it's old", there isn't a thing wrong with it.
Everyone is good though. Landon is doing great in school this year, which is so nice, and he played football this past spring and absolutely DOMINATED. That came out of no where. Neither Nikki nor I give a hoot about football, but he really wanted to play so we signed him up...it was so cool watching him OWN it. He was totally focused, into it, and he is FAST. If his team put the ball into his hands, it was a touch down. He scored over half the team's points for the season. Wow. I wasn't expecting that but it was very cool and a good confidence booster for Landon. Not much else going on here. How about back there?
