Well, its about time to button up the vettes for winter and move on to the cold weather toys. And of course,I cant leave those alone either so I will post some pics and info on my current toy/project.I bought it 2 years ago and have not had time to do much other than swap out the stock, heavy, crappy suspension for a better riding/lighter setup.Anyway, here are some current pics,it is a 2003 Yamaha RX1,with a stage 2 Bender Turbo system on it.Transformation time has begun ! ;D

I had already stripped off the seat, side covers, cowl and chaincase in prep to remove the engine for some low comp pistons,Crower rods,ARP head studs,port/polish and valve job, degree cams and ,of course,Turbo upgrade !Here,I have exposed the upper half of the engine, which is buried beneath the Delta box subframe assy which holds the steering linkage/stem.

Stock rods are usually only good to about 300-325 HP.I,plan to push this a little bit further than that and dont enjoy a 10-15 mile tow back to the truck so an upgrade here seemed a wise choice !

Had the engine cases power washed in my buddies large hot water cleaner(they do transmissions, does a VERY good job cleaning aluminum) Then, a quick spray with some hi temp alum, and its ready to assemble !

The new rods have ARP bolts which torque by measuring the stretch of the bolt itself. If the rods were any smaller,I would have to make adapters for my gauge setup ! What a pain !

If you look back to the first pic,you can see the steering shaft was mounted at a somewhat rearward, uncomfortable angle. Now add a tall person, standing up while climbing a hill.Yep,the handlebars hit me about midwaist, offering very poor handling,NO leverage and no ability to put weight forward on the sled to help keep the front end down .Solution, reposition the stem assy(know as a rider forward mod)as you can see the large round hole where the steering used to go,approx 4 insches to the rear from where it now is.Newer models are built this way as Yamaha quickly found that the original design did indeed make for a poor handling mountain sled.

Here it is with the new 162" track and lightweight suspension back in place. It will be a couple days before the head is done and the Turbo shows up bringing another round of update pics.Just something to keep the boards busy, wait til I take on the kids sled !

You would have to de-tune it to run the Snowman. Of course he will tell us his is smaller!

I dig the pics. Did the same thing to the steering column on my Storm, for the same reason. Now carving POW is as easy as tipping my head. I have a handle bar hoop, but never use it. I'm stuck in the old-skool; 861cc 2 stroke triple, ported, heads, mod pipes, ceramic coatings etc., turns 9k sounds sick as all hell. I'd like to turbo it too, but never have gotten to it...yet. I attacked weight the "poor-man's way" and lost over 120 lbs of the sled for under $500.00. Very rewarding. Old tech.... Not nearly as clean as Vince's high tech unit...but it's still a climber. Your looking at ~170-180 hp...

hell, some of those 995 Genesis motors put out nearly 250HP on pump gas. Old tech ? Nah,just what your used to. I rode a new Rev,nice sled but not sure I want to spend 12K on another sled right now. I still have an 800RMK,700RMK,the kids 550 summit and a 550 touring up at the cabin.I am really a die hard Polaris guy at heart, just had to try a turbo 4stroke for a little while. We will def have to ride this year, thats why I started on mine now !
