Hi mechanicaly inclined people out there. Got a problem with my 89 f150 truck ( straight 6) Im hopeing for some insight on. The engine light came on and I noticed that the oil pressure guage was pegged at the low end. Im thinkin its out of oil as it has leaked out before. But the dipstick says its full...... I drove it for about 6 miles before I saw the oil guage and its still running great, for now. But I left it parked till I find out if its the guage, sensor, or oil pump thats shot. Any Ideas how to check if oil is realy flowing ?

Any lifter noise ? Look inside the valve cover for oil flow at the rockers,or,since its a 6cyl,lean over and loosen DONT remove the oil filter, and see if it has oil pressure there. These trucks have big history of oil pump drive failures, but usually, they quit running as the gear strips on the distributor. Best of luck, hopefully its just a bad sending unit.

ON A C4 GROUNDING THE WIRE TO THE SENDING UNIT PEGS THE GAUGE READING TO THE MAX READING, SIMPLY DISCONNECTED THE GAUGE READS MINIMUM OE ZERO PRESSURE. IF YOUR GAUGE RESPONDS TO THESE TESTS, YOU HAVE RULED OUT A BAD SENDING UNIT.
RACE ON!!

That would rule out the gauge, but not a faulty sending unit. Rather,it would verify the gauge itself is functional, not necessarily that the truck has oil pressure.

I had the same problem, after TAS replace two good sending units, we found another scotch lock problem. I removed the scotch lock and soldered the connection and heat loomed it and guess what the d**n thing worked..Check your wiring also.
