what do you have to do to get the rear calipers to depress? Have a track day tomorrow and I'm stuck trying to put on new pads

If they do not compress easily by hand/with a pair of channelocks there is something wrong.

Not on the C5/6. The park brake is a separate drum assy. The rear caliper is just a basic, one piston sliding caliper. Vince is right; it should push in by hand or worst case, easily with some channel locks.
