Ok, for all of you corvette muscle guys heres the latest. As you knew I blew out the input shaft gears inside the POS TCI converter. After many hours on the internet and on the phone I will be purchasing a Precision (Vigilante) torque converter. The big problem with the TCI converter was that the POS was made with crappy crap for the clutch material. It was sluffing off and traveling through the 700-R, wiping out bearings and races. It needed a complete rebuild. After discussing what to do with Pete K on the Corvette forum we came up with a rebuild plan. Damage $2500 According to the 700 r guru this trans built as much as it can be built.
While the Vette was up on the blocks, Ross said to bring the Dana 44 over and we would install it. Ross, Alex and my self removed the 36, and started in stalling the 44. Ross said to pull out the 1/2 shafts to see if the U-joints needed repacing. I removed the 12/shafts and Ross pushed out the U-joints. All 4 needed replacing, but two of them were rusted and about to fall apart. (there was one grease zert in the rusted one). After some research on which brand, we purchased some heavy duty suckers (no grease zerts) $120 . This racing is so much fun, it it totally worth it to get out on that track and go, go,go....
Once finished we will have replaced the rear end, transmission and the torque converter. Exhaust is out, I guess I could have pull the motor just for giggles. Just kidding. Next week I will fill the rear end with fluids. We are also upgrading some of the suspension parts while we at it..
I can't wait to back on the track to Kick Ross's ass. He has such a loser car 18 seconds....Whooooooo
