How much of a trade off is weight to your ET at the track?

I bet Crossfire has this info in his archives as he seems to have pretty good knowledge regarding facts such as this. I am curious as well, the mustang guys keep saying I owe them a couple tenths due to their cars being heavier !

Their cars are smaller so no tenths for them. Now I get a couple tenths because of the advanced age of my car. I get a couple more tenths for the Lack of Technology, and I think I should get atleast a second for the lack of the memo (you know the one. It is the one that comes with the extension, the extra lift, and duration, the huffers, and the excuses)

The widely accepted rule of thumb is that for for every 100 pounds of weight reduction there is a corresponding 1/10th second reduction in ET. As usual, YMMV.

Just wondering if I were to change back to that fiberglass back window, and take out the spare how much weight that would be. Then take out the ballast (Jack, lug wrench, and stuff like that) and clean out my glove box and center console, and then look for other items I am not using on the car, such as that great AC that the compressor does not work due to a bad head seal, and some of the other great components, if I could loose 100 pounds on the car. Then the thought of me going on a diet would not hurt either. I could loose some weight, and then go faster, and be able to get in and out of that pig easier.
Then again, if I decided to do things to it, I would want to choose the lightest weight components to do the job. Extra steel in a cage is unused weight. I must keep that in mind when designing things. Then there is that heavy seat on the passenger side. Wonder if I could take that out at the track to save some more weight.
Just trying to think what I could do to push my car into the 14.999 area so I can say my car is faster than a 15 second car, if even for one pass.

lets see, hmmmm, 200 from me, 200 from impact bars, that would add up to 400 lbs.... 10 sec club here I come, I wonder if I can do that on street tires.....
