Hey everyone. I'm new and I've searched through the forums for an answer to my question without success. I'm looking to get my paint redone on my 1987 coupe. I want the original looking job, nothing fancy, but I do need something that will last. I have heard a lot about bubbling of paint because of improper paint.
The question is if anyone has had their vette painted here in Utah, and where they would recommend. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance, Rick

I have had mine painted twice, 1st time changes color, they stripped the car down and painted it. On a score of 1 to 10 a 7. Repainted it again at a shop on Washington Blvd where the old bowling alley was, company name is custom auto, another 7. It is very hard to get a great job and everyone has there own values. You might want to give them a call to see what they would charge

I was told fiber glass is very hard to paint because it attracts fine fibers from everywhere including the painter...............can't keep it clean before or during painting.

Whenever I join a new forum, I do the same thing, this is a very informal form, and the guys all joke around so don't take it personally, it's all in fun. But I must tell you this is the greatist bunch of guys, and gals you will ever meet. I have found my time on this forum the most enjoyable and fun one could ask for....Next time around you can look at my paint job and see what you think.

Been following this thread as I used to be an "auto body technician" I sucked at it but it something I really wanted to do many years ago. As for painting fiberglass I don't think its any harder than metal for a quality painter/body guy. There is a little static when you are at the body working stage but by the time you get a couple coats of sanding primer and an epoxy primer/sealer that usually goes away.
I don't know how you find the right guy but body/paint work is a real art and finding a pro isn't easy. I worked with 3 other guys in one shop and even in there you could really tell a difference in quality from one guy to the next. They all had the same equipment and resources but no the same talent. Some guys also work on commission so they are more interested in a quick turn around than doing a top of the line paint job. I've been out of the auto body business for a long time now but $6000 might be low if you are changing the color on the car. I wouldn't be surprised if it costs more but I'd be very interested in what kind of estimates you get cause my car will be needing a paint job in a year or two.

I had my color changed three years ago and it was $5,000, had a repaint this summer due to a wreck. zero $ priceless. But your absolutley right, I have had many many paint jobs in my day, and it is an art form. That is why I could only give a 7 to my last two. You can go to the same guy 4 times and get 4 different paint jobs.

i would recommend Marquee something in NSLC or bountiful Utah. fixed my bumper 2 times and did a good job at matching. they were recommended by SLC motorsports who used to be on state and 4100 south , and they were picky old guys. Also check out east frontage road in Sandy, south of 9000, just north of CALPLY, inside a little complex of one story buildings. 2 paint shops, seemed good quality and price on motorcycles (harleys) Worth customs in Sandy i think its called

how much do you want to spend? If money is tight go to MAACO. some MAACO shops do decent work some don't.
