if anyone is running the old computer, the obd 1 and is interested in getting their corvette tuned. i know someone that will do the tuning for a good price. he is the only one i know of locally that does this obd 1 tuning. he did a great job on my 88. if this isn't the forum for this kind of post, please disregard. strokerutah

Stroker, I would think there were a lot of people who would like to know where they can get there chip tuned locally..

I am actually looking into getting setup to do it myself. Of course, I won't be any good at it for a very long time, if ever. Looks like all the hardware and software I need is around $400.00. I will probably go and buy it when I get my engine built and play around with the tuning then. Kinda of hard to tune though without a dyno, but I suppose I could go out into the middle of nowhere and try to get an idea by measuring the quarter mile or something. So many outside variables would make that a nearly pointless way of trying to gauge performance though.

the use of of a dyno, although perfered is not nesessary. this tuner gets data while monitoring a wide-band o2 sensor. while i'm driving he tells me how much throttle to use. with the goal of getting a/f ratio at different rpms and throttle positions. then with his software makes needed changes to operating infomation contained in the chip. with chip burner he takes out old program and inputs new program. then back to the highway to assess changes. spark advance, rev limiter, knock counts, idle speed, fueling for cold start up. are some of the things contained in the prom. if you need help toward tuning you chip i'm sure this friend will answer any questions and give hands on help if needed.

Does your freind do OB2 tuning also. I have a C6 Vette with the check engine light that keeps coming on. I have a preadator tuning tool. and went back to the stock tune after clearing the code. But the check light comes on after a hour after a drive. The code thinks it is a O2 senser. Does this sound right to you. Also I have long tube headers and preformance converters. Thanks for your input. The vette is the Z51 model

With performance converters you will have a hard time getting rid of the check engine light. Corvettes just don't like high performance converters.

He may also have an issue with the actual placement of the O2 sensors on the headers, causing issues. Lots of possibilities,OBD2 is not forgiving in some respects !

Thanks for the quick replies. I think it is the sensor placement as advised. They have been installed since 07. I will follow up on your advice. Thanks, bernnie

I've heard of O2 "sims" that simulate a real O2 sensor if it and the cats were working properly. That way you can completely delete your cats and the check engine light won't come on. It's not technically legal, though, if you're worried about that, but it will still pass emissions.

On E-Bay type in Simulator O2 and see what comes up

It's not technically legal, though, if you're worried about that, but it will still pass emissions. The "sims" only replace the after cat "checking" O2 sensors. A semi normal computer car couldn't run with any decent driveability without an O2 to allow for, and contribute feedback to, closed loop operation. Deleted cats won't pass the visual inspection, even if it it sniffs clean. Your smog test may very.
