I just figured out what to do with the motor out of my Vette. Since I have a new one I am working on paying for, and am going to build and put in it, I was just thinking of leaving the old engine sit in my garage on a pallet, with Plastic wrap around it..... Guess that Idea is out now. Thanks to our newest member aSSn8r I have taken delivery of the old motor's new home. For now it is going to sit up on my trailer, with 0 work getting done to it, short of maybe moving parts around and using it's insides as a storage area for them, but it is going to be the new home of my old engine. Nothing special going to be done to the motor, and I plan on using it as a daily driver, and will try to keep it to that (Although we all know how that will go once the vette is running and I am having fun with it)
Stay tuned, as I want to run a hose over it, and will take pics of it.
I have no intentions of this slowing my progress on the Vette, and will make sure that it gets finished first, and then it will be a fast trip to make this one the new daily driver, and the old Red one will (Dare I say it) be riding on the trailer, and going on cruises, and not getting many miles put on it, but those miles will be a rush!

Are you aware that your old motor will not be a direct swap (other than motor mounts and bell housing) at all?? That car has the LT1 which has different intake, reverse cooling, cam driven water pump, DIS, and on, and on. Here I was under the impression that the 'Vette has to be a budget build...and you've gotten yourself another project! LOL. I've been know to do similar things though, and that car looks like it will be fun. I loved beating the bejeezus out of my Camaro...and it loved it too! That car should clean up nice!

I know it is not a direct swap.... But if I am putting in the DFI in the Vette, I can put the entire harness, and computer in the Z28 if I have to, but there is the thought of just getting an LT1 and dropping it in. I am sure I could find one of them in a junkyard pretty easy.
And no the Vette has turned out to not be a budget build. It has got outta hand, and I think it will be something I am proud of when I am done, because I know I did what I wanted the first time, and I did it myself.
And when a deal like this comes along you just gotta jump at it. Again thanks to our newest member assn8r for the deal on this one

I know it is not a direct swap.... But if I am putting in the DFI in the Vette, I can put the entire harness, and computer in the Z28 if I have to, I thought of something else you might consider, before going too far; engine height. The TPI intake is taller, and may not fit under the hood, OR the cowl, since in that car the engine is 1/2 way back in there. Worse, the LT1 having DIS has no distributor and therefore it has MUCH more firewall/cowl clearance than the L98 does. I highly doubt that a TPI shod, Gen 1 SBC will fit in there w/a distributor. You could massage the cowl/fire wall, but I wonder about the viability of that anyway, plus there is the issue of the plenum-to-hood clearance, since the TPI is about 4" taller than the LT1 intake. but there is the thought of just getting an LT1 and dropping it in. I am sure I could find one of them in a junkyard pretty easy. I'm thinking that would be the most direct route to the goal.

I must say that I am leaning towards finding her an LT1 more and more.

you can get some measurements off mine. you will need something like the tpis mini ram and maybe a hei without the coil on top, and it might work. i dont think the alt. and so on will fit the lt1 brackets, you may need to go after market on that. and yea-that thing will sit half way under the windshield, i always felt bad for anyone that had to work on one,i miss my 86 camaro.that body was the last camaro to have a good size engine bay, i could hop in with a 350 and almost close the hood!

Yous sounds sweet, and 300 hp/340tq is great numbers for a 305. Well done! That MUST have been a fun car! Mine was a weird car; it also was an LG4/T-5/3:23 car, but other than the weak engine, it was FULLY loaded; ground fx, hood louvers, spoiler, T-tops, power everything, AC, blah, blah. It was essentially an IROC, but the year before the same optioned car said "IROC" on the side. And of course w/o the TPI engine. By the time I sold mine, it had C4 brakes, 1LE suspension, and rear w/3:73 gear, TFS-headed 350 making 365 hp, BW T-56 trans, 4th gen seats, and a pumpin' sound system, w/three amps and 10 speakers. It was a great car. Reliable, cheap, easy to work on, and in great condition, too. I should ahve kept it instead of buying the C6. Oh well. :/

i had alot of fun with it i had it for 11 years and it never broke down! i got new susp. for it/700r4 w/shift kit/tci trq conv./edelbrock intake and water pump/ported heads/comp cam/smi(sean murffy induction)qjet carb/hooker exhaust, cust comp program, and every thing else they made for it that i could find, and it sat on american raceing trq thrust 2s 17x8 and 17x9.5 with yokohama a520s, the wheels made the look of the car one of the best looking F bodies i have ever seen. the guy i sold it to works on 2000 east in sandy around 56th so. its dark gray if you see it let me know how she's doing.
