Was going to wait till next Saturday so I could race Wed but with the weather looking crappy I"ll start tomorrow. If I knew the weather was going to be bad I would have done it this weekend. I'll get it up on stands tomorrow and the headers/exhaust/fluids all off. From there I can pull the shocks and start undoing the rear stuff. I got some new bilstein shocks to put in at the same time. What kind of car, and where are you located?

RPM tranny has done plenty of 1000hp+ 4L80E swaps in vettes. Finding a good auto to deal with the power isn't a problem. They are costly though. They quoted me $16,500 for the complete swap including driveshaft tube, shifter, wiring and stand alone controller with a converter. Not to mention you have to cut/modify the trans tunnel for clearance. PG swap is $6500 and bolt in,no programming, bulletproof REID racing case, low 1.3 sixty foot,SWEET !

Car is up on stands. Rear brakes, shocks, wheels are off. Plug wires off. Exhaust is all loose. Tonight the goal is drain fluids, and get exhaust off.

Clutch install, the easy way ! I feel for you buddy, its NOT a fun job ! BTW,we leave the upper arms,spindles/hubs/shocks and calipers attached and drop only the lower cradle assy with spring and lower arms, lots less work.

Too late for that. The cradle is already prepped to drop. Just have to undo the diff, axles and cradle bolts to drop the whole cradle out.

Hey highpockets, what is the red truss looking contraption surrounding the diff/trans?

Hey highpockets, what is the red truss looking contraption surrounding the diff/trans? Its a trans brace. It essentially preloads and ties the rear diff and trans case together to help strengthen the connection between the two. When these cars blow the rear diffs or spit the pinion out, they tend to snap the tailhousing off the trans and break the output shaft as well. Big $$$ repairs ! I got some pics of an oopsie around,I will dig them up.

You will notice that this virtually brand new stage 5 rear diff exploded even WITH the aforementioned brace. The tailshaft on C5 (and C6 as well) goes through the rear end and intersects with the pinion gear in the BACK of the case. Long/unsupported tailshaft + blown pinion gear equals THIS ! Nick,I am sure will post some teardown pics. The C6Z rear end(as well as the Tr6060 trans is a MUCH stouter and well designed setup,31 spline instead of 28,trans mounts are outboard of the rear diff on "wings" so to speak, providing MUCH better support as well as resistance to breakage. The R&P is larger, the tailhousing on the trans is larger with more bolts, all in all a MUCH stouter design. In fact, its what I have been running for nearly two years now. Here is a shot of the C5Z rear and Nicks C6Z side by side comparison.

I can never get pictures to post on here. Fluids drained. Subframe is out. Passenger side axle was the worst part. It didn't want to come out of the diff. I finally had to pull the leaf spring to get a better angle on it, then it came right out. Tonight I have school. Tomorrow I want to get it all out.
Vince, what is the easiest way to proceed? I figure next step is pull the headers/x-pipe, but then do I drop the diff by itself, then the tranny, or drop both of those as one piece. I may just take off work early tomorrow to grab the fluid. If I don't get it tomorrow then I'll plan on going to the car show to grab it Saturday.
