Well finally I got out there and got started. I am going to try today, to get the hood off, some stuff off the top, and the fluids draining. We will see how far I get. I will be taking pictures along the way, and why not, I will post them on here so everyone can see how it is going. Got them uploading to photo bucket, and will post them on here when done, but am on my dinner break! Teriyaki Chicken Breasts (Boneless), Butter and Herb Noodles, and Broccoli. Once dinner is done, I am planing on getting on a little more. This is it with the hood off. The wife and I were able to do it ourselves! Hard to believe that is our same garage. Told you all we have spent some time emptying it out.

Looks like you are starting to make progress. It will be cool to see the finished product and look back at this to see how far you have gone. Let me know if you need help getting it back on the trailer or anything.

Hey thanks Vince. I am hoping to have some help when it is time to put it on the trailer. I might need some help with the exhaust too. Looks terrible. I know we have some fixes planned, but I found something ugly I need to find a way around! Also for those that are wondering, I think that with a floor jack and 4 jackstands I can actually get it up enough for even my fat gut! Soon as I am done eating, I am going to start the fluid draining.

Thanks for all the offers of help everyone.
And Wayne, When I put it in the garage a week or two ago, the first thing I did was unhook the battery. By the time I go to reload the car on the trailer, the battery will be on a shelf in the garage.

the whole winch talk.. Wal mart sells 3000 lb winches that hooks to your battery and they work absolutely amazing to pull cars on trailers. I would pull trucks up onto my trailer with those little tiny winches. They cost $49.00 and do a great job and you wont break a back trying to push on a car. Even if the vehicle weighs 7000 lbs it still pulls them on just fine because they are rolling. Give it a shot, you will be impressed. I have used the same winch 2 years now and pulled on probably 50 cars with it. Or your welcome to come borrow mine too. You call that garage clean? come on now mark.. that is not a garage, but a storage shed hehe just messing.. good luck with it all. I remember doing that in my C4 that I had.. Fun times. Don't rush too fast and get burned out.. If you get frustrated just walk away until you cool off. Best of luck to you. Nathan

Thanks for the winch info Nathan, One of the things my trailer gets this winter is a way to drag a car on it when broken. I want to put a cheap winch from somewhere on there and if Walmart has one that works, I would rather get it there, than from Harbor Freight. It is set up for a Battery (Even has a battery box on it and it has the cables ran to the area to mount the winch on the other side of the box) I have a way to get it on and off this time, as a buddy down the street said we could use his comealong, but it is worth looking into for sure. And I have my really special ways to deal with needing to walk away. I just step aside, go sit in the chair in the garage, crack open a Stout, and turn the tunes up a bit. And that is really clean, want to see what it looked like before we opened it up some?

Well I got a little deeper into it tonight. Have a question or two for the C4 Guru's. If my car made such a big deal about the EGR Control Solenoid, and EGR Circuit, can anyone explain the heads? These are stock heads right? Notice that the center of the head is solid, and no EGR Holes? I am used to seeing a passage here. If the EGR System is so important to the computer, what does it do once it gets into the intake? Just hang out and be a pain in the butt or what. Forgive my ignorace, but I chased all over looking for the correct solenoid, and it looks like it was for nothing. By the way I did not get as far as I wanted tonight, but I got a good bit done. Hopefully I can be done by the end of the weekend, and ready for next week. I have a 3 day work week, and a mother in law flying in on friday, when we take all the kids trick or treating. Then she is here for the weekend, so I plan on being knee deep in Motor most of that weekend.

your egr passage does not go in the same place as the old stuff that port was just the cross over. your valve as you know is in the mid of your intake between the runners ,and i think, that one runner with the extra tube, thats for your egr.

That would make sense.
I was really surprised at how clean it was.

Notice that the center of the head is solid, and no EGR Holes? I am used to seeing a passage here. If the EGR System is so important to the computer, what does it do once it gets into the intake? Just hang out and be a pain in the butt or what. On all the L98 and earlier engines the EGR valve dumps the exhaust gases into the intake manifold for them to be ingested with the combustion air. The exhaust crossover passage was used in conjunction with the heat riser valve to force exhaust gases through the intake manifold to heat the manifold of a carbureted engine to aid in keeping the fuel from condensing on the walls of the manifold in a cold engone. With port fuel injectors and no fuel in most of the intake passages, manifold heat was no longer needed in a cold engine. Chevy eliminated the crossover passage when they introduced the aluminum heads in 1986. With iron heads, the exhaust to the EGR valve is routed from the crossover passage in the intake manifold to the EGR valve, then back into the intake passage of the manifold. On the aluminum headed engines, the exhaust gases are routed through an external tube from the right side exhaust manifold. Certainly, you had to remove the tube to get the right side valve cover and intake manifold off. I can read the casting number from one picture and see that you have the stock, "113" heads. The roller rockers are not stock.

Mark, I wish you the best of luck! If I pass out while reading this thread, it's cause I have a natural aversion to seeing the inside of an engine... nevermind I get quesy seeing a car dissasembled like that
